Sidetrack Performance Group works with theatre artists from diverse
cultural and performance backgrounds exploring and developing new ways
of making and presenting theatre.
Sidetrack's aim is to be at the forefront of contemporary
Australian theatre and performance culture by challenging the
boundaries of Australian theatre practices in relation to a culturally
diverse society.
Since its inception Sidetrack has attempted to create theatre with
a culturally diverse audience in mind. The company was in fact the
first professional company in Australia to pursue and maintain an
oeuvre, which could give a theatrical voice and a space to the accents,
stories and cultural styles within Australia's cultural diverse
society.
Sidetrack's base in Marrickville (in Sydney's inner western
suburbs), is one of Australia's most culturally diverse locations. In
its 22 years of existence it is Marrickville's diversity which has been
the sustaining inspiration for the company's work.
Sidetrack is housed within the Addison Road Centre for Arts,
Culture, Community + Environment (ARC) is located in the inner western
Sydney suburb of Marrickville. Marrickville is nine kilometres from the
Sydney central business district and is bordered by Cooks River in the
south, King Street and Alexandra Canal to the east, Parramatta Road to
the north and Canterbury Road to the west. Marrickville has a
culturally diverse population with approximately 140 nationalities
represented and is still a predominantly working class suburb, though
economic and social change is slowly occurring throughout the inner
west.
Further details can be obtained by phoning the theatre on 02 9560 1255.
