ECCF&CS is a non-profit community based
organisation. ECCF&CS provides
information, resources, referral, advocacy, consultation, training, support and
assistance in the areas of children, disability and aged services in order to
ensure that every Australian from non-English speaking background is provided
with the opportunity to participate and receive services relevant to their
linguistic, cultural and religious needs.
The Co-op sponsors the following
programs:
Ethnic
Child Care Development Unit (ECCDU): A state-wide program that provides information,
referral & advocacy services to NESB children and their families to enhance
their opportunities to access children’s services and also assists children’s
services professionals with information, training, support and make input into
Departmental policies in regard to children’s services at all three levels.
Casual
Ethnic Workers Pool (CEWP): A state-wide program to integrate & include NESB children,
NESB children with disabilities into children services. It assists NESB
children in their settling in period in children’s services by providing one to
one hands support, language assistance and culturally appropriate activities
through a pool of bilingual/bicultural workers. It also conducts a VETAB
accredited Multicultural and Multicultural Disability Certificate courses for
the workers.
Ethnic
Children’s Services Workers Program (ECSW): A state-wide program which recruits
and trains potential NESB carers, links them to Family Day Care Scheme to NESB
families.
SUPS:
Aims to
increase access and participation of children with additional needs in the
Inner City of Ashfield, Burwood, Drummoyne, Concord and Strathfield. It provides
training, support, information, resources to increase the skills of children’s
services staff. The program promotes Multicultural, Disability & Aboriginal
perspectives and culturally and developmentally appropriate children services
program.
Multicultural
Respite Services (MRS): Provides recreational activities to children and adults with
disabilities who live in the Marrickville/Canterbury region.
Vacation
Care Program: Provides
vacation care for children with disabilities. One to one care is provided to
children who have high needs.
Ethnic Access Program (EAP): The program aims to identify gaps
and barriers experienced by people from NESB in receiving HACC services
relevant to their needs. This is achieved through placement of an Ethnic Access
Officer in HACC funded organisations. The program facilitates the development
and implementation of policies to enhance access opportunities for NESB people,
and to ensure equity of outcome in service provision. The focus areas include
Structural Development (development of policies & procedures), Community
Development (networking & promotion) and training of staff/volunteers (on
cultural diversity). The geographic areas covered include:
- Eastern Sydney and Northern
Sydney
This program is funded by NSW Ageing
and Disability Department through Home and Community Care (HACC) Program.
Eastern
Sydney Multicultural Access Project (ESMAP): Covering the Local Government areas
of Botany Bay, Randwick, South Sydney, Sydney, Waverley
and Woollahra. The project is designed to facilitate and enhance service access
and equity to HACC funded services for the culturally and linguistically
diverse communities in that area. The project aims to ensure that HACC funded
service providers and the related health and aged care packages are relevant to
the needs of the targeted groups. The project focuses on service evaluation,
structural development, community development activities and promotion
strategies and cross cultural training for management, staff and volunteers.
Ethnic
People with Disabilities Program (EPDP): A community development program
funded by the NSW Ageing and Disability Department, EPDP aims to create
awareness and understanding of disability and multicultural issues within NESB
communities, Government Departments and ethnic and disability service
providers. It aims to ensure that services are culturally and linguistically
relevant and accessible to non-English speaking background people with
disabilities (NESB), their families and carers. EPDP provides information and
support to NESB people with disabilities and encourages development of support
networks. It also aims to increase access to disability services by people with
disability from a NESB through information provision, training, ongoing support
and consultation.
