welcome

Welcome to the Addison Road Centre (ARC), Marrickville, Sydney. This is Australia's largest not-for-profit community centre. ARC features member organisations and individuals working in the arts, culture, community and environment fields. An Art Gallery at the front of the Centre offers a range of exhibitions and events. Two community theatres, a range of recycle and reuse materials available at Reverse Garbage and The Bower are just some of the reasons thousands of visitors come each year to the Centre. There are the park areas to relax in and the Sunday markets attract people from all over Sydney.

ARC Community Garden

Last Sunday August 7 thanks to the initiative of ARC Community Garden, we had the visit of Costa from the SBS TV program 'Costas Garden Odyssey' - . Costa "a Landscape Architect with an all consuming passion for plants and people" was at the Centre giving a little talk about many aspects of gardening.

This presentation was brilliantly complemented by Jake Cassar, a skilled bush tucker-man who discussed the many nutritional and medicinal aspects off native and non native plants. There were also a a seed savers stall and information about local environmental issues and solutions

Connecting Local Farmers to City Folk (The Bower)

Food Connect Sydney's vision is to be a leader in making ethically grown food from local farmers to any household in Sydney. Food Connect Sydney buys direct from local organic and chemical free farmers and packs it into three sized boxes - $ 35- $ 65.  These are then delivered to a local host or "City Cousin" where suscribers come once a week to pick up their pre-paid box.

At  ARC that City cousin is THE BOWER  where you can come and collect your fresh organic products every Wednesday from 1.00 pm  to 7.00 pm

Food Connects supports farming and local communities as it is:

*Fair: 40c in every dollar goes back to the farmer

*Organic: 100% or the produce is certified organic or chemical free

*Direct: over 90% of the produce is bought direct from the farmer

*Community driven: Local communities come together at their City Cousin

Also don't forget that THE BOWER ( HUT 34) has an Eco-library on a mezzanine level in their strawbale store. The library is also designated as a community meeting space, so you can pop by any time between 10 am - 5 pm Mon-Fri to carry out quite chats/interviews/discussions etc. The space fits 6-7 people around the dining table confortably and 15 people or so in more informal gatherings

The best part of this is that the use of the library is free of charge!

Marrickville Men's Shed Open Information day

Foodz & Toonz on the Green presents    The Normal Brothers  FRIDAY November 18  6pm  Free Event

Friday nights will now return to their summer splendour and for this first F&Tz, we will have the 'eclectic blues' of the NORMAL BROTHERS. Our local food stall holders will be providing the usual delicious cuisines fro Ethiopia, Venezuela, China, Turkey, Portugal & Chile. And, as always, the kids will be catered for with our wonderful face-painter extraordinaire and her interactive puppet shows where the kids create the narrative. All of this takes place on the Addison Road Centre's Green space under the smiling stars of the summer night sky. The character of F&Tz has taken on the flavour on the Inner West and reflects its unique culture and community.

So, we welcome everybody back

ARC Main Office and Gallery roof

Solar power at ARC

We received a free Solar power installation for the ARC. Thanks to our local Sydney Energy Coop and its affiliate Greenforce Energy. Thomas Baywater from SEC generously offered us a free installation of about 2 Kw of Solar power which include all materials. The roof of the ARC Main Office and Gallery building was the most suitable location for the solar panels. An inverter needed to be installed behind the Art Gallery. The proposal included 22 * 90 W solar panels, the inverter and the installation whith all parts included. According with Thoma Bywater the system will supply us with 2920 kWh of solar energy per year which equates to an annual energy saving of about $ 554.00
